TV psychologist Tanya Byron links games to heroin

    Friday, April 18, 2008, 03:33 AM [General]

"About a month ago, Dr.In the meantime, she's also added a few new pages to the library, namely the Retired Pet page and the "Fake" Pet Skills page. Tanya Byron made headlines regarding her review on video game violence. The former deals with formerly tamable pets that can no longer be tamed, while the latter deals with pet skills that are present during the newbie hunter taming quests, but not on any permanently tamed pet. Now, she's has taken the spotlight once again with a BBC TV show she wrote and hosted. I rather like both of the new pages. Through it, she linked video game to heroin addiction. Not only should the information be helpful (if sad) to any newbie wondering where they can get that awesome ghost wolf, but the pages were a nice walk down memory lane for this old hunter. In her show, Byron delved deeper to the world of gaming by talking about several situations gamers are in.I remember when I made first Tauren Hunter, I was always disappointed that Swoop wasn't an actual bird pet skill, and I was considering a pet crab for my Dwarf Hunter at one point, and would have loved to have a thorny pet to add a bit more damage and threat power for tanking. She went as far as to compare playing video games to cocaine or even heroin addiction.Crabs could probably use some love anyway, as they seem to be competing with the likes of Sporebats and Bears for most neglected pet family. One of her interviewees was Michelle Hart, a 39-year-old World of Warcraft addict. But anyway, if you're a Hunter, and you haven't checked out Petopia in a while, it's worth a look, there's some pretty cool stuff going on over there. power leveling Hart said she's been playing the MMORPG for two years and spends most of her free time playing it. Regarding melee hunters..

With her situation, Byron commented, ""It might seem ludicrous to compare a childish computer fantasy game with hard drug addiction.yes, the thought is laughable to most.Of course, we don't exactly know what's happening in the Stratholme of the past -- maybe the Infinite Dragonflight is causing problems there that we need to stop (or, even better, maybe we'll get to see an as-yet-unknown reason why a Paladin of the Silver Hand, headstrong as he might have been, decided to slaughter an entire town even before he was under Frostmourne's corruption -- maybe there's more to Arthas than we saw in Warcraft III). But addiction counselors offering treatment to gamers argue that there are key similarities in the way that the consumer gets hooked into coming back for more."" Aside from Hart, Stephen Noel-Hill was another interviewee by Byron. But hopefully the Infinite Dragonflight storyline will be continued in some way -- mucking about in time isn't exactly safe, so there should be good reasons the Bronze Dragonflight sends us back to these past events. wow power leveling Noel-Hill was revealed to be a recovering gaming addict.Watching history firsthand is fun and all, but the lore of the Bronze Dragons falls apart completely if they just start opening up theme parks in the past. He was able to establish a recovery clinic in Amsterdam which welcomed game addicts. "even better, maybe we'll get to see an as-yet-unknown reason why a Paladin of the Silver Hand, headstrong as he might have been, decided to slaughter an entire town even before he was under Frostmourne's corruption ". Noel-Hill believed that ""computer gaming has become an addiction every bit as pernicious as more conventional drugs."" Before ending the show, Byron stressed the fact the video games could cause harm to those who are addicted to it. guild wars gold She said: If we combine the pleasurable aspects of gaming or gambling with an individual who has other psychological or emotional needs, it become more obvious how this behavior can become addictive. if you guys have something to share regarding the latest work of Tanya Byron, feel free to comment using the space below." "If you were having a hard time connecting to Blizzard's World of Warcraft Tournament Realm, it's because the servers were recently shut down for some urgent maintenance.

You shouldn't have any problems with it now though since the realm is up and running Community Manager Bornakk has announced that they will be providing updates in case any more issues come up. Unfortunately, he failed to give any details on the specific problems which prompted the developers to shut down the realms. wow gold Furthermore, Bornakk's post seems to hint that users may still encounter a few more problems while accessing the realm. We're going to be keeping an eye out for any updates regarding this issue, still, we're hoping that whatever caused the developers to take down the realms has already been resolved so WoW players can play without any interruptions. Clarifications on transmutation not procing

    Friday, April 18, 2008, 03:31 AM [General]

"As Hortus' old signature used to say, ""Random does not mean fair."" Player Dotsofdeath reports over at the World of Warcraft forums that there seems to be a bug with regards to the Transmute sub-skill for the Alchemy profession. As the player explained, he had been having no luck getting procs over the time he attempted to transmute certain materials (skyfire, earthstorms, etc.), and that other players were reporting similar problems. In the meantime, she's also added a few new pages to the library, namely the Retired Pet page and the "Fake" Pet Skills page. Blizzard representative Hortus dropped by the WoW Forums to explain that it's not a bug: We've verified that tradeskills are procing correctly. The former deals with formerly tamable pets that can no longer be tamed, while the latter deals with pet skills that are present during the newbie hunter taming quests, but not on any permanently tamed pet. The nature of random chance and very large numbers means that sometimes somewhere some people will have long streaks without procs, and sometimes somewhere some people will have several procs in a row. To put it simply: It's just a matter of bad luck. I rather like both of the new pages. If you happen to be among those having the same problems as Dotsofdeath, cheer up.Not only should the information be helpful (if sad) to any newbie wondering where they can get that awesome ghost wolf, but the pages were a nice walk down memory lane for this old hunter. After all, it may just be a matter of time before you start cashing in on those ""procs in a row"" that Hortus speaks of.I remember when I made first Tauren Hunter, I was always disappointed that Swoop wasn't an actual bird pet skill, and I was considering a pet crab for my Dwarf Hunter at one point, and would have loved to have a thorny pet to add a bit more damage and threat power for tanking.

Having trouble trying to contact Landro Longshot to redeem your World of Warcraft Trading Card game goodies.Crabs could probably use some love anyway, as they seem to be competing with the likes of Sporebats and Bears for most neglected pet family. If your problems involves having a Hated reputation with the Booty Bay faction, then you've got the same problem as player Lieandra. The player reports a bug that causes Longshot to spawn a Booty Bay Bruiser every time somebody with hated rep with Booty Bay attempts to talk to him. But anyway, if you're a Hunter, and you haven't checked out Petopia in a while, it's worth a look, there's some pretty cool stuff going on over there. level wow What's strange here is that Longshot doesn't have any connection with the Steamwheedle Cartel, the guys running Booty Bay. The good news is that Blizzard has already caught wind of this bug, and that fixes have already been implemented. Regarding melee hunters.. As Hortus explained in a follow-up post: The changes to guard spawns have been made.yes, the thought is laughable to most.Of course, we don't exactly know what's happening in the Stratholme of the past -- maybe the Infinite Dragonflight is causing problems there that we need to stop (or, even better, maybe we'll get to see an as-yet-unknown reason why a Paladin of the Silver Hand, headstrong as he might have been, decided to slaughter an entire town even before he was under Frostmourne's corruption -- maybe there's more to Arthas than we saw in Warcraft III). As I said before you will still have to deal with the guards but it should be easier now. But hopefully the Infinite Dragonflight storyline will be continued in some way -- mucking about in time isn't exactly safe, so there should be good reasons the Bronze Dragonflight sends us back to these past events.

wow lvl I've found that if you stand behind Landro it should be possible to speak with him without too much difficulty. Being a Bloodsail Buccaneer is not meant to be easy.Watching history firsthand is fun and all, but the lore of the Bronze Dragons falls apart completely if they just start opening up theme parks in the past. Dealing with the Booty Bay guards is the price you pay for the second coolest hat in the game (mine being the coolest). Hortus' headgear, in case you're wondering, is a Gnomish Mind Control Cap. "even better, maybe we'll get to see an as-yet-unknown reason why a Paladin of the Silver Hand, headstrong as he might have been, decided to slaughter an entire town even before he was under Frostmourne's corruption ". WoW Insider Show Episode 33 now available

    Friday, April 18, 2008, 03:29 AM [General]

"Yes, episode number 33 of our podcast is now up for download over at WoW Radio, and if you're a big fan of the show, it's a doozy. In the meantime, she's also added a few new pages to the library, namely the Retired Pet page and the "Fake" Pet Skills page. Since we haven't done our ""normal"" show in a few weeks (because of the interview with Xzin last time around), we decided to go all fan service, and caught up on all the shout-outs, fan email, and other fan shenanigans we usually do (there's even some Turpster love poetry). The former deals with formerly tamable pets that can no longer be tamed, while the latter deals with pet skills that are present during the newbie hunter taming quests, but not on any permanently tamed pet. But even if you're not down with the silliness, there's lots of good WoW news in this week's episode, including: Some good discussion about the Wrath alpha news and what it means A look at what's going down on Sunwell Plateau, including the Aldor and Scyer neckpieces And a little bit about the Gurubashi Arena in STV Plus we answer all kinds of email questions, including rested XP in expansions, what's wrong with Blackout in a shadow priest spec, and whether we should call the new five man MrT or MgT Lots of good stuff with John P, Turpster and myself. I rather like both of the new pages. As always, if you have questions or comments for us, feel free to drop an email: send it to theshow@wowinsider.com. And of course, you can always listen live -- we go live on the air every Saturday afternoon at 3:30pm EST over on WoW Radio. Not only should the information be helpful (if sad) to any newbie wondering where they can get that awesome ghost wolf, but the pages were a nice walk down memory lane for this old hunter.

Tune in next Saturday and every Saturday for the WoW Insider Show -- it's just like this very site, except in audio form. Please oh please, keep the shoutouts and fanrequests to a minimum, there is nothing more boring then listening to a podcast bable on with names you never heard about for 5 min.I remember when I made first Tauren Hunter, I was always disappointed that Swoop wasn't an actual bird pet skill, and I was considering a pet crab for my Dwarf Hunter at one point, and would have loved to have a thorny pet to add a bit more damage and threat power for tanking. Do my request and do a podcast/show worth listening to, that means: Talk about topics and info about wow, thats why I download this show, not to hear random player names from random servers." "It was previously mentioned that the new badge items for Blizzard's World of Warcraft were supposed to reflect the theme for the blood elves.Crabs could probably use some love anyway, as they seem to be competing with the likes of Sporebats and Bears for most neglected pet family. However, several players on the WoW forums noted that the overall design of the items don't follow in the actual gold and red color design that the race favors. In contrast to the supposed theme advertised by Blizzard, most of the new gear still retain the look of the Zul'Aman badge items which were aimed primarily for trolls. But anyway, if you're a Hunter, and you haven't checked out Petopia in a while, it's worth a look, there's some pretty cool stuff going on over there. world of warcraft powerleveling Fortunately, Blizzard Poster Drysc was there to give a rather lengthy explanation regarding this: Contrary to popular belief designing a new item set does take a while. Regarding melee hunters..

We usually use color shifts on the same designs to save time, the exception to that would be the arena sets where we want the items to specifically match the PvE counterparts.yes, the thought is laughable to most.Of course, we don't exactly know what's happening in the Stratholme of the past -- maybe the Infinite Dragonflight is causing problems there that we need to stop (or, even better, maybe we'll get to see an as-yet-unknown reason why a Paladin of the Silver Hand, headstrong as he might have been, decided to slaughter an entire town even before he was under Frostmourne's corruption -- maybe there's more to Arthas than we saw in Warcraft III). wowgold The choice to color shift is usually when an item isn't something that would benefit from having a unique model, usually a leveling item. But hopefully the Infinite Dragonflight storyline will be continued in some way -- mucking about in time isn't exactly safe, so there should be good reasons the Bronze Dragonflight sends us back to these past events. wow powerlevel In the case of the badge rewards I can see the reasoning to use color shifts for the level of investment taken to acquire them.Watching history firsthand is fun and all, but the lore of the Bronze Dragons falls apart completely if they just start opening up theme parks in the past. Is buying an item with badges the same as clearing Black Temple. "even better, maybe we'll get to see an as-yet-unknown reason why a Paladin of the Silver Hand, headstrong as he might have been, decided to slaughter an entire town even before he was under Frostmourne's corruption ". No, no not really. world of warcraft power leveling So, it isn't so horrible if a shift is used. Drysc also mentioned that the entirety of the art department has shifted its focus on the upcoming Wrath of the Lich King expansion. Therefore, it wasn't that surprising to find mere color shifts as the biggest difference between the newly released badge items. eq2 platinum The good news is that Blizzard promised that the next expansion will see far better quality in terms of the environments, textures and models. Hopefully, the developers will pull through with this statement and see better quality items in future updates of the game. "

The bad girls (and good girls) of Warcraft

    Friday, April 18, 2008, 03:26 AM [General]

"I love this -- miladyhikara is working on a series of sketches featuring ""Bad Girls of Warcraft,"" and the beginnings of the pieces are now up over on her deviantART page.In the meantime, she's also added a few new pages to the library, namely the Retired Pet page and the "Fake" Pet Skills page. They look fantastic -- I especially think this Shivarra looks good, but she's also got a female Naga, a Succubus, and Lady Barov herself. The former deals with formerly tamable pets that can no longer be tamed, while the latter deals with pet skills that are present during the newbie hunter taming quests, but not on any permanently tamed pet. She says she's working on color palettes for most of them, so we'll have to wait to see the finished product -- if the sketches are any indication, they should look amazing. She's also still asking for suggestions apparently -- who else would go in the ""Bad Girls of Warcraft"" series. I rather like both of the new pages. Sylvanas. Not only should the information be helpful (if sad) to any newbie wondering where they can get that awesome ghost wolf, but the pages were a nice walk down memory lane for this old hunter. (is she really bad.I remember when I made first Tauren Hunter, I was always disappointed that Swoop wasn't an actual bird pet skill, and I was considering a pet crab for my Dwarf Hunter at one point, and would have loved to have a thorny pet to add a bit more damage and threat power for tanking. ) Onyxia for sure (in both forms).Crabs could probably use some love anyway, as they seem to be competing with the likes of Sporebats and Bears for most neglected pet family. And she's also thinking about doing a ""Good Girls of Warcraft"" series, too -- hello Jaina, Tyrande and Fandral Staghelm. But anyway, if you're a Hunter, and you haven't checked out Petopia in a while, it's worth a look, there's some pretty cool stuff going on over there.

world of warcraft power leveling Wait, he's not a girl. Regarding melee hunters.. Then why's he wearing that dress.yes, the thought is laughable to most.Of course, we don't exactly know what's happening in the Stratholme of the past -- maybe the Infinite Dragonflight is causing problems there that we need to stop (or, even better, maybe we'll get to see an as-yet-unknown reason why a Paladin of the Silver Hand, headstrong as he might have been, decided to slaughter an entire town even before he was under Frostmourne's corruption -- maybe there's more to Arthas than we saw in Warcraft III). The Infinite Dragonflight in Stratholme We hit on this one with Mount Hyjal before, but Ironcog brings up an interesting point: why exactly are we going to be mucking around in the old city of Stratholme via the Caverns of Time. But hopefully the Infinite Dragonflight storyline will be continued in some way -- mucking about in time isn't exactly safe, so there should be good reasons the Bronze Dragonflight sends us back to these past events. wow powerleveling In Escape from Durnholde, we're obviously trying to make sure Thrall gets out of the prison camp, and the Infinite Dragonflight is fighting to stop us and ruin history.Watching history firsthand is fun and all, but the lore of the Bronze Dragons falls apart completely if they just start opening up theme parks in the past. Same deal in the Black Morass -- the Infinite Dragonflight is trying to keep Medivh from opening the Dark Portal. "even better, maybe we'll get to see an as-yet-unknown reason why a Paladin of the Silver Hand, headstrong as he might have been, decided to slaughter an entire town even before he was under Frostmourne's corruption ". But in Hyjal, the dragonflight is nowhere to be seen, and we're basically just time tourists.

wow powerlevel You'd think the Bronze Dragonflight would want us to stay out of there. Of course, we don't exactly know what's happening in the Stratholme of the past -- maybe the Infinite Dragonflight is causing problems there that we need to stop (or, even better, maybe we'll get to see an as-yet-unknown reason why a Paladin of the Silver Hand, headstrong as he might have been, decided to slaughter an entire town even before he was under Frostmourne's corruption -- maybe there's more to Arthas than we saw in Warcraft III). Watching history firsthand is fun and all, but the lore of the Bronze Dragons falls apart completely if they just start opening up theme parks in the past." "Players are reacting to (quite a few things, actually, in) the Tom Chilton interview we linked to earlier, but one of them is rubbing a lot of older players the wrong way -- when Gamespy asks Chilton about world PvP, like the kind that took place between Tarren Mill and Southshore, he called any fondness for that ""nostalgia"" -- he says that people didn't really like it at the time, they only want to go back to that because they're nostalgic for it. Fortunately, we here at WoW Insider keep all of our old archives online, and as you can see, most people did actually enjoy the old Xroads and SS/TM world PvP -- I have fond memories of fighting in Ashenvale as well. But Chilton isn't wrong that there was complaining (isn't there always. wow gold ): it was usually just complaining that those were the only places any real PvP happened. Nowadays, we've got BGs and Arenas, and actual rewards for world PvP, but it's still a little hard to come across one of those all-out battles that used to rage in Xroads or south of Tarren Mill. Most of the time, the only reason those battles were going on was because, well, what else did you do besides raiding at 70. serveur wow Now that there's more choices, no level 70 would waste their time fighting lowbies in SS -- there are much more epic rewards doing dailies or fighting in the Arenas. There's no question that nostalgia definitely makes things better, but Chilton is wrong to dismiss any wishes for SS/TM-esque world PvP as simple nostalgia.

Druids' New Ability in Wrath of the Lich King

    Friday, April 11, 2008, 04:13 AM [General]

"Druid root is very good for crowd control outdoors due to it working on any mob type, but most instances and raid zones are indoor only. In Burning Crusade the Druid class got a new spell, Cyclone, that worked indoors as well, but with a 6 sec duration (and diminishing returns), it was only effective in limited situations. Druids have asked loud and long for more reliable crowd control abilities. And now it looks like they might get it. Player Wisperella recently specced Moonkin and feels she would be more desirable in groups if the Druid Entangling Roots spell were usable indoors. With a 27 second duration and a 1.5 second cast time that can already be made uninterruptible through Talents, it could make Moonkin an integral part of many groups. Especially since Moonkin with their high armor won't get squished so easily trying to crowd control a mob that's pound- ing on them. Community Manager Eyonix responded that an idea along these lines is ""possible"" in the Wrath of the Lich King expansion. He couldn't guarantee that it would happen, but let us know that he has been campaigning for it ""a very long time."" Time will tell if this will be one of the handful of new abilities Druids will get in the expansion.
